yesterday was hard

Lee found her. Close to home, beneath juniper branches and leaves, lifeless but intact. We suspect she was hit by a car and crawled into the brush. She still looked so D -- I found myself staring at her belly to be certain it was no longer making little ups and downs.

I took the kids over to Mom's for a belated Thanksgiving dinner while Lee took D over to his dad's to bury her. Now she makes things grow.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you, TCE. I just checked out your blog and was relieved to read that yours narrowly escaped harm. Where in Blount County are you? And do you mind if I link to your blog from mine? Sounds like we took similar city --> country paths.

Thanks, we were very lucky. One of our females got hit not too long ago--and in broad daylight, on an open stretch of road--but she amazingly enough survived. We were very lucky there as well, although it was awful at the time.

Yes, you can link to my blog. Can I add a link to yours, as soon as I figure out how? ;)

I've been away from the computer for a few days so I just saw this. So sorry to hear about it.

Thanks, Rurality. I am so glad you are actively posting again. I really enjoy the feeling of discovery when I visit your site.

TCE, you made me laugh. When I first started blogging, I never noticed the option to receive email alerting me of follow-up comments, so I would visit other blogs and leave comments and then just assume that I was done. I'm not even sure I got email letting me know when other people left comments on mine. It has taken this old-school myspacer a while to figure things out on blogger. Just keep clicking.

Hm, that means I need to find where to elect to receive e-mails for comments, lol. And where to add links. Ah, my "to do" list is growing by the moment. ;)
