cluck, sizzle, strum

The other day I found an old friend of mine on Facebook, and she turned me on to the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival in Moulton, AL. In particular, she gave a shout out to the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who'll be playing at the festival next month.

Bluegrass, chickens, and eggs -- what more could you ask for? Thanks, Ashley V.!

Isn't Facebook awesome? I have recently hooked up with some of my high school friends and people I hadn't seen or talked to in fifteen years or so.

Whoa, that band looks totally cool! I've seen thousands of white string bands over the years, but hadn't yet seen an African American band playing that style of music. I'm not familiar with the piedmont style either, so I'm curious all around. So are y'all going?

And btw, I did a search for you on fb but didn't see you--if you want to, send me an invite.

I saw their performance at City Stages (online) and it was one of the best ones I have seen in a long time. I am definitely putting this on my calendar. Hope your mom is doing well!!!

Hey Lythrum! You know, at first I didn't "get" FB, because I was so accustomed to myspace. Then my brother explained that while myspace is like having your own website (which is great for bands), FB is strictly for social networking. Now I only ever use FB and very rarely do I check myspace anymore. I have found some old friends that I wouldn't have found any other way.

Hiya Allison! I know, I know -- what an amazing discovery! I'm really hoping we can go to the festival. I think the kids would have a blast. I'll keep you posted as to our plans -- it would be great if we could all go.

Regarding FB: Yay -- you're on! I'll find you. At first, I wasn't sure I wanted everyone finding me, so I registered as Meg Pea Pie. Now that I've been on there for a while, I feel kind of ridiculous for having done that. :)

Lisa! Thanks for commenting! What an endorsement -- I hope we can all go see CCD! Mom is recovering nicely -- thanks for asking. The surgery went well, and she is getting stronger every day. I'm hoping to head back home on Saturday. I miss my family!

It took me a while to find the clips on their site, but I like them! That Rhiannon especially - wow she can sing.

Hey Karen! Agreed. Hey, I wonder if you could sell your soap at the festival?

Sounds like a day trip to Moulton is in order!

I love string band music! One of these days when I get my school stuff finished up, I'm going to really get going on the old-time banjo and make some music!

Hey MM! You must let me know when that day comes. My husband is learning to play my brother's old banjo. I'm thinking some good old-fashioned porch music is in order!

Moulton has quite a few interesting festivals - the city might have a website around here somewhere . . . Seems like something happens in conjunction with Classical Fruits and Barbeque (yes, that the the actual name of a glorified fruit stand, if it is still in business).

You know about the annual Fiddler's Convention in Athens, right? ; )

Hi Tara ~ I am learning so much about Moulton these days -- what a treasure! I googled around a bit and you're right: they have a strawberry and an apple festival centered around Classical Fruits and Barbeque, which is in the middle of an apple orchard.

I do know about the Fiddler's Convention, but I've never been. It's on my lifelong to-do list!
