Well, we did it. We got another dog. A German Shepherd pup named Maya. We're keeping her close for now, only letting her roam by leash until she knows it's home. She spent most of the day running between the front porch and the rest of the house, sliding around on the floor for lack of traction. For anyone interested in really great books about raising dogs, check out what The Monks of New Skete have to offer.
I'm dog tired (ouch), and I've grown weary of the captcha game (although I did find it amusing that the one I most recently encountered was "besynucl"), so that's it for the first day of February.

What a beautiful girl! She has a great name, too.
Oh, those ears!! My favorite all time dog (aside from the simple mutt) is a shepherd. I've known some really, really fine shepherds in my time and can't wait to meet Maya.
You can't live in the country and not have a dog. Or two or three. She is beautiful!
Thanks TCE! She came with the name, but we think it's a keeper. I once temporarily inherited a lab named Zora, so there seems to be a bit of a theme.
Hey Allison! Yeah, the ears are really something. She can't wait to meet you, too!
Hiya Patsy -- oh boy, she just ran in here and shook off all over me! Heehee. Lee gave her a bath.
Cute doggie! I wanted a Shepard when we first moved here, but I kept reading about how they loved to eat chickens. Glad to know that's not true.
Hey Karen! Dee, our dog that died last fall, was part shepherd, and one of our hens used to hang out with her on the porch. It was really sweet. Maya is pure GS, and while she has chased the chickens a few times already, she seems to be playing. Lee is already training her to leave them alone, though, and today she barely noticed them. She did bark a little at the cows across the road, until she got used to them!
