Isn't it just the best to put seeds in soil and get back food? Our foremothers would be appalled that we find it novel, but here we are in the grocery store world and it really is a great feeling to leave them out of the dinner plan, at least in some small way.
Congrats on the cucumbers, I didn't know that they germinated that fast.

Rurality and Shannon, the only reason we've got squash already is that we started the seeds early indoors and then set them out in the rain. Heck, it rained for two freaking months, and stuff was getting rootbound in the cold frame! At least we didn't have to worry about watering anything for a long time after that.
The rusty metal thing is an axe that my husband uses to split firewood. You can't see the handle because I took it head-on. And speaking of axe handles, there is a Gary Snyder poem by that name. Enjoy!
I am all envy over your garden. Country living at it's best. I have a container garden because I live in the big city. So not the same thing.
Heather, container gardens are cool, too! And I bet you don't have to drive half an hour to the nearest coffee house. It's all a matter of perspective.
